Denver Broncos Acquire Quarterback Zach Wilson from New York Jets
Broncos Trade Sixth-Round Pick for Former No. 2 Overall Selection
Wilson Struggled in Jets Debut, Throws Four Interceptions Against Patriots
The Denver Broncos have acquired quarterback Zach Wilson from the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Jets will also receive a seventh-round pick in the trade.
Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, struggled in his rookie season with the Jets. He threw for just 2,334 yards and nine touchdowns with 11 interceptions in 13 games. Wilson also posted a disappointing passer rating of 55.6.
In his most recent outing, Wilson threw four interceptions in a 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots. The rookie quarterback has now thrown multiple interceptions in three of his four starts this season.
The Broncos are hoping that Wilson can provide some stability at the quarterback position after struggling with injuries to Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater this season. Wilson is expected to start for the Broncos in their next game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Jets, meanwhile, are moving on from Wilson after just one season. The team is expected to start Joe Flacco at quarterback for the rest of the season.
