The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday afternoon that goaltender Carter Hart has been charged with sexual assault. The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred in connection with an alleged assault by Hart. The Flyers released a statement saying that they are "aware of the charges against Carter Hart and are taking the matter very seriously." The team added that it is "cooperating fully with the investigation and will take appropriate action as necessary." Hart has been placed on administrative leave by the Flyers pending the outcome of the investigation.

Hart, 25, is in his fifth season with the Flyers. He has a career record of 64-59-17 with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. Hart was the Flyers' starting goaltender for the majority of the 2021-22 season, but he struggled mightily. He finished the season with a 3.67 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage in 46 games.

The Flyers are currently in the midst of a coaching search. They fired head coach Alain Vigneault in December and have been interviewing candidates to replace him. The Flyers are expected to make a decision on their next head coach in the coming weeks.
