Swiatek Stunned by Noskova in Australian Open Upset
World number one exits tournament in third round
Noskova's serve and game face proved too much for Swiatek
World number one Iga Swiatek is out of the Australian Open after being stunned by Czech 19-year-old Linda Noskova in the third round on Saturday. Noskova upset Swiatek 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted two hours and 40 minutes.
Swiatek, who is the top seed in the tournament, was looking to win her first Australian Open title. She had won the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open in 2022.
Noskova, who is ranked 102nd in the world, had never beaten a top-10 player before. She played aggressively throughout the match and hit 30 winners to Swiatek's 22.
Swiatek's loss is a major upset and opens up the women's draw at the Australian Open. Noskova will face Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round.
